VAUGHN BELL is a Seattle-based artist who creates interactive projects and immersive environments that deal with how we relate to our environment.
The artists investigates how the landscape is observed, divided and apportioned and our notions of connections and responsibility, as well as how we are affected and how we affect the places and spaces we inhabit. She is also interested in discussions of sustainability, property rights, public space and ecological function.
In her performances, sculptures and drawings, Bell explores the miniaturization of landscape, the separation of one piece of “land” from the whole, creating tiny mountains or small pieces of land. Natural elements are suddenly within the scale of the human body, implying a different relationship than the one of awe, alienation or domination that is present in many encounters with our surroundings.
